Admissions
Sheffield City Council is responsible for all admissions to Mercia School in Year 7-11.
We are a school that welcomes applications from all families in the south-west of Sheffield. We are a non-selective school with a large catchment area. We are an additional choice for families, alongside the existing schools in the south-west of the city.
We advise all parents/carers to carefully consider the unique ethos of Mercia School before applying for a place. We welcome and encourage visits to school before any in-year application, or those outside of the normal admission round.
Furthermore, we strongly suggest that all prospective families attend our Open Events in October of each year. These events provide essential information, in a refreshingly open and honest format, that will inform your choices. Please note in 2021, Mercia School received approximately 900 positive applications.
We strongly encourage parents/carers to pick the school as their first choice if you really believe the school is right for your child. This is not a 'convenience-choice' school. All parents/carers must buy in to 100% of the school's traditional ethos and values. Culture is king and our expectations will not be compromised. Mercia pupils study in well-behaved classes, taught by first-class teachers who are experts in their field. Teachers stretch and challenge all pupils, whatever their ability or background. It is essential that parents/carers are supportive of this approach.
