The School Day and Support
The School Day
Mercia Collegiate Sixth Form has a longer school day, with more timetabled lessons, seminars and independent study sessions than other A Level providers. As a result, scholars have both a deeper and broader understanding of their courses of study and to gain powerful knowledge. They are ready for the rigour of a world-leading university education.
School is open from 07:30, with the day formally commencing at 08:20. The days ends at 17:00, with a 15:45 finish on Fridays. Over the course of the day, scholars have lessons in each of their A Levels, as well as timetabled independent or collaborative study. Additionally, scholars will be expected to take full advantage of seminars, lectures and talks, all of which will impart knowledge well beyond the traditional curriculum. Our Professional Schools occupy an hour a day, and it is here that scholars are immersed in their chosen field and strengthened in their post-18 ambitions, through wider reading and further explicit teaching.
Our passionate staff influence beyond just the classroom and scholars are already taking up opportunities of debate, leadership, professional talks and work experience. Scholars also make use of school facilities, such as the gym.
Supporting Performance
In any high performing organisation with talented and ambitious individuals, there is inevitably some pressure to succeed and achieve. All scholars are supported with the following initiatives:
- A dedicated Professional Mastery Tutor (Prof) who supports pupils with mindset, organisation and mental/physical well-being and wider subject immersion
- A strong sports and leisure culture, with an on-site gym and organised fixtures against other Sixth Forms
- Clubs and Societies – Robotics Club, Literary Society and MCSF Mooting Society to name a few
- Trips and visits – scholars regularly have the opportunity to visit galleries, museums and theatres locally and nationally. All scholars attend visits to Russell Group Universities.
Mercia Collegiate Sixth Form scholars are a vital part of the Mercia family. They are ambassadors for the school and their subjects.
